It’s not every year that we get a four day weekend for the Fourth of July! We have four luxurious days of sunshine, fireworks, and beach games to look forward to, but where should you eat? San Diego has a multitude of food events this weekend, but we’ve found the ones you can’t miss. From brunch and Brewery pairings to cupcakes extravaganzas, and neighborhood cookouts –  These are the events you won’t want to miss!

Cupcake Extravaganza
Eclipse Chocolate, South Park

Eclipse Chocolate will be throwing their 10th annual Independence Day celebration by giving you a full weekend of cupcakes. The event starts Friday morning at 9 am, but there will be more than enough cupcakes and discounts to go around throughout the four day weekend. There will be 24 scrumptious cupcake options to choose from including Mango Cheesecake, Chocolate Thin Mint, and Beer & Pretzel Caramel. Gluten free and vegan options will also be available. For a truly unique taste of San Diego, the Hotel del Coronado will be throwing a clambake on the beach with live entertainment and beach games. Executive Chef John Shelton will be preparing Lobster tails, Local Prawns, Clams, Oysters, and Crispy Scallops to name a few. After the feast guests can cozy up on the cabanas and eat smores while they watch Raiders of the Lost Ark. The event does come with a price tag at $125 an adult, but the picturesque environment and world class fare will truly be a once and a lifetime opportunity. Brewery Brunch
SafeHouse, North Park

The most important part of any weekend is always brunch, which is why EPPIG Brewery and SafeHouse are teaming up to bring you their first local beer pairing brunch. SafeHouse will be debuting new brunch items along with their tried and true Pork Belly Benedict, Chilaquiles, and Basic Bitch Breakfast, while EPPIG pours $4 beers from 11 am to 3 pm. After you’re done with your brunch you can hop on over to our North Park Walking Tour to keep the feast going.

Get your bibs ready because Culture is throwing a southern bash to start Fourth of July weekend off right. Smitty’s BBQ will be boiling a hundred pounds of fresh Louisiana crawfish from 1 pm to 5 pm. Come in for some sunshine, beer, and good old fashion Bayou cooking. Your ticket gets you unlimited crawfish and a free beer. There’s limited availability so make sure you act fast to get in on the fun.

Free Donut Bar

Yes, we said free donuts! Barrel Republic will have a complimentary donut bar to go with your beer purchase. Barrel has a huge array of self-pour beers for you to discover your perfect beer and donut pairing. There’s no word yet which donut shop will be preparing the donuts, so you’ll just have to show up to find out. The event starts at 12 pm so make sure you allow yourself enough time to get there before the donuts run out.

Bottomless Brunch

Do you ever sit at your desk on Monday and wish you were sitting down at brunch? Well, four day weekends mean four whole days of brunch. Red Card Cafe will be extending its weekend brunch menu till Monday for those lucky souls with the day off. You can choose from favorites like the Red Velvet Waffles, Ham & Gruyere Crepes or the Soyrizo Hash. We know that brunch is never the same without bottomless, which is only $14 at Red Card Cafe with the purchase of an entree.

Neighborhood Cookout
Carnitas Snack Shack, Downtown

If you’re still looking for something to do on the 4th, head to Carnitas for a neighborhood cookout. Chef Hannis will be on the grill all day bringing you BBQ favorites like burgers and hotdogs. You’ll also be able to drink beer, eat soft serve, and order off the regular menu throughout the day. At 2 pm live music begins with Mike White, followed by the Eric Sage Ultimate Rock Show at 6 pm. If you stick around till 9 pm you’ll be able to see the Bay fireworks show right from your table.

Finish the four day weekend off in style with a 3-course menu overlooking the fireworks in La Jolla Cove. George’s is taking reservations for those of you able to pay upwards of $250 for a front row seat to the fireworks show.  George’s will be serving delectable meals all night long. The entrees include Roasted Organic Chicken Breast, Herbed Alaskan Halibut, and Grilled Filet Mignon. Check out their full menu and availability to snag a seat.
