We’ve waited all year for this time to come, and finally, the sun is shining, returning San Diego to the beachfront oasis we all know and love. Few things are better than a day lounging on the beach with friends and family enjoying our beautiful city, but eventually, the sun starts to set and your stomach is growling. That’s why your friends at Bite have found the perfect spots for you to grab some food right near the beach. No matter what neighborhood you’re in!
Coronado & Encinitas
After a day of roasting in the sun like a lobster, you can eat one at Lobster West. Conveniently located steps from the beach in Coronado and Encinitas, you can get your lobster fix without having to jump in your car. Last year we blogged about San Diego’s love of lobster and what was seemingly a trend has become a full blown lobster fascination. Out of all the places to grab a lobster roll, Lobster West is our favorite because they overnight their lobster from Maine to San Diego every day. Now that’s fresh. If you can’t decide what to get go with the Maine Feast For Two, which comes with one Lobster Roll, one Crab Roll and one Shrimp Roll to share. Don’t forget to check out Lobster West during our Coronado walking tour as well.
For days when you need to eat, but don’t want to stray far from your perfect beach spot we recommend Wonderland. The restaurant overlooks the beach, making it the best spot for brunch with your friends before hitting the sand. If you’re lucky you’ll even see a surf competition from the comfort of your table. We love brunch at Wonderland, but the restaurant is open all day with a wide array of dishes for you to try. We recommend starting your meal with the Hot Beer Cheese & Salty Pretzel Balls, before moving onto Lobster Tacos and the Arugula & Manchego salad. You really can have your beach and eat there too.
Beaming Organic Superfood Cafe
Bikini bodies don’t sustain themselves. For health conscious beach goers we recommend the organic superfood cafe Beaming. What does organic superfood cafe mean? It means it’s good for you. Beaming offers organic cold pressed juices, smoothies, raw sprouted nut milk, superfood snacks, acai bowls, power shots and other raw and vegan goodies. If you’re feeling under the weather we swear by the Cold Buster Power Shot but be warned, it’ll definitely put some hair on your chest. If you’ve already packed up from the beach you can check out Beaming during our La Jolla walking tour every Saturday and Sunday.
Board & Brew
Del Mar, Pacific Beach & Carlsbad
You can never go wrong with a good sandwich on the beach. With locations in Carlsbad, Del Mar, and Pacific Beach, Board & Brew is a great spot to grab your beach day bites. It’s hard to pick a favorite, but we love the Turkado, which comes with turkey breast and jack cheese, topped with avocado and served on sourdough bread. Other favorites include Tub O’ Tuna, the Veggie Supreme, and the California Delight. Now you’re ready for a day of fun in the sun, with your sandwich by your side.
Sambazon Acai Cafe
Sambazon was the first company to bring acai to the United States, and we thank them profusely. Acai is often called the king of superfoods because it’s full of antioxidants, healthy omegas, and is naturally sugar-free. Most acai cafes use Sambazon packets, but there are only two actual Sambazon locations in the United States! One is in Newport Beach, and the other is conveniently located right in Cardiff. The best part about going to an actual Sambazon location is that the acai isn’t mixed with almond milk or a type of juice. When you go to Sambazon you’re getting pure acai right in your cup. We love the Coconut Mango Bowl, but acai bowl preferences are different for everyone.
Carlsbad & Del Mar
Poke is everywhere, but few spots have been as highly anticipated as Pokewan. Pokewan has recently opened locations in Carlsbad and Del Mar, so you can get your poke fix without the commute. What makes Pokewan unique is their individually wrapped nigiri, which makes it easy to grab and throw into a beach bag. Beachfront sushi?! We’re in. Pokewan has signature poke bowls, but you can also build your own. We really like the Maui Wowie Mango, which comes with spicy tuna served on cucumber noodles, topped with mango salsa, avocado, edamame, beet, sweet onion, furikake, scallion, micro shiso and mango habanero sauce. Prepare to feel refreshed.
Any of these spots will make for a perfect beginning or end to a beach day. Just don’t forget the sunscreen!
