Although most of the country celebrates Pride in June, the official Pride month, San Diego keeps the party rolling into July. For the past month, Hillcrest has been alive with the Pride spirit and it’s about to culminate into the grand finale this Saturday when over 100,000 people march in the Pride Parade. We know the festivities will make you hungry so we’ve found the best LGBT owned spots to grab some grub so you can dance late into the night at the Pride Music Festival with your friends.
Parade Day Brunch
Hillcrest Brewing Company
Start your Saturday off with brunch at Hillcrest Brewing Company, the first “Out and Proud LGBT Brewery” in the world. Hillcrest Brewing Company has hilarious beer names that are just as tasty as they are funny. We would tell you the names, but we have to leave something for a surprise. For brunch, we recommend getting one of their amazing breakfast pizzas. You can choose from Queen Eggs and Ham, The All Gay-Merican and other cleverly titled fare. Just make sure you grab a beer-mosa to wash it all down.
All-You-Can-Eat Mexican Buffet
If you’ve never been to a Mexican brunch buffet, It’s time. Baja Betty’s will be slashing $10 off the regular price of their brunch buffet this Saturday making the buffet plus a drink just $14.95 a person! The buffet will go from 9 am to noon, but make sure you’re on time because this is sure to fill up. The buffet will include a waffle bar, nacho bar, made to order scrambled eggs, street tacos, pastries, fresh fruit, and more tasty surprises. To keep you hydrated, Baja Betty’s will be serving $4 mimosas, sangria, and bloody marys till noon. Come back on Sunday for more deals throughout the day.
Pride in North Park
Redwing Bar & Grill
If you need a break from the craziness of Hillcrest, but don’t want the party to end, head to Redwing Bar & Grill in North Park. Redwing has happy hour every day until 6 pm so even though you’re beating the crowds, you won’t be missing out on any of the fun. On Sunday Redwing will have $1 domestic drafts and $7 hamburger and beer specials. You absolutely have to try Redwings wings and nachos, both of which of are North Park resident favorites. If you can’t get through the traffic you can still visit Redwing every Saturday and Sunday on our North Park Walking Tour!
You know Mo’s will be partying all weekend long, but what’s Pride without a little Sunday Funday? Join the champagne brunch from 10 am to 2 pm to keep celebrating through the Sunday scaries. Our favorite breakfast at Mo’s is the Savory Panko Croquette, which is a garlic mashed potato ball stuffed with jalapeno bacon, ham, cheese, herbs, a boiled egg and your choice of sauce. If that sounds a little too wild you can never go wrong with the Steak & Eggs or the Rosemary Brisket Hash & Eggs. Everything is good after some champagne!
Cure your Pride weekend hangovers with more champagne at Gossip Grills Recovery Brunch. If you’re lucky enough to have Monday off you can enjoy $12.50 bottomless mimosas and $6.25 Frose from 11 am to 2 pm. If the weekend has you saying “I’m never drinking again” you can still enjoy their great brunch selections, such as The Breakfast Burger, The Chicken & Waffle Sandwich or our favorite, Big Mama’s Chicken Fried Steak. There’s no better way to start the new week!
We hope you have a great weekend celebrating love and the LGBT community. Be safe and enjoy some tasty Bites around Hillcrest!
