St. Patricks Day Bites & Brews

March 16, 2018Blog, Things to do

Gather your green and your gold because the biggest Irish holiday of the year is right around the corner! St. Patrick’s Day is traditionally the celebration of St. Patrick’s death, but in the United States, the holiday is better known for its green beer and shepherds pie. This Saturday, March 17th there will be Leprechaun-themed parties all over San Diego. If you want to partake in the Irish celebration, we’ve gathered a list of some of the places you can join in on the fun. Think of this as the rainbow leading you to your own personal pot of gold – or food.

What better place to celebrate an Irish holiday than at an Irish pub and grill? Dublin Square Irish Pub and Grill will be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day from the early hour of 7 am all the way until 1 am the next day. Make sure you stop by during the day to try one of their traditional Irish dishes, like the Corned Beef & Cabbage, Fish & Chips or Bangers & Mash! At night there will be live music by Finnegan Blue to get all of the St. Patricks Day partygoers in the holiday spirit. Dublin Square Irish Pub and Grill is your ticket to drink and dance to the sounds of traditional Irish music in honor of ole Saint Patrick.

If you’re looking for something a little smaller, wink wink, Small Bar is hosting a St. Patrick’s Day brunch! Come by at 10 am for their Vegan Scramble, Biscuits N’ Gravy, or Brunch Burger. You can’t go to brunch at Small Bar without trying one of the Superior Bloody Mary’s! Our favorite is The Classic, which is a regular Bloody Mary topped with shrimp, bleu cheese olives, pepperoncini, tomato, and pickled onion. To further celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, Small Bar will be serving $1 oysters and $4 stouts throughout the day. Come back the next day to cure your hangover with their Beer for Breakfast brunch. It’s the best way to get all of that green beer out of your system!

St. Patrick’s Day doesn’t have to be all about beer and whiskey. McFadden’s is switching it up by offering a pot of golden orange juice and champagne, also known as bottomless mimosas. If you prefer beer, you can opt for the bottomless green beer during their Kegs and Eggs bottomless brunch buffet. The menu has yet to be released, but we can only hope that they’ll be serving their Almost Famous Wings and Fried Mac & Cheese Fritters. For $25 you can get all the luxuries of the brunch buffet and dance along to live music, participate in contests, and celebrate like the Irish do. Tickets are available here, and you can call ahead for table reservations to ensure your good luck.

If you’re looking for a beachfront St. Patrick’s Day, Waterbar’s St. Paddy’s Day is the celebration for you. Waterbar is celebrating St. Patrick’s with $5 Irish coffees in the morning, and $10 Jameson caskmates all day. Waterbar, a relatively new bar to the Pacific Beach area, has an incredible menu with dishes like their UK Fish & Chips, Filet Mignon, and Jidori Chicken. Waterbar is the perfect place to kick back, sip some whiskey, and casually watch the England v. Ireland rugby match during the day. Stick around until the sun goes down and you’ll even get to witness their Special Sunset Bagpiper.
