Weekend Bites in San Diego

August 18, 2017Blog, Things to do

Hang up your pots and pans; it’s the weekend and we’re going to have someone else cook for a change. During the summer months making dinner can add stress to your already busy schedule. When you’re in charge of the meals the only way to catch a break is by loading the family into the car and going out to a restaurant. Moms, I know you hear me. Thankfully, living in San Diego gives us the opportunity to try amazing restaurants whenever we’re too tired to cook. Grab the kids, or get a sitter, because it’s time to try some weekend bites!

Head over to Ambrogio 15 in Pacific Beach for a great late night happy hour. Ambrogio 15 was founded by three friends from Milan, Italy who wanted to bring their passion for pizza to San Diego. Known for their thin crust Ambrogio is a local favorite with an array of pizzas that fit anyones taste. From 8 pm till close the Italian pizza kitchen serves up $4 local craft beer and Italian wine, $5 mixed Italian olives, $6 Sicilian salad, $9 charcuterie boards, and $9 Margherita pizza. One of our favorite pies on the menu is their Pizza Pesto e Mortadella. It pairs fresh pesto, cherry tomatoes, mozzarella and mortadella on one delicious pizza. Now that’s Amore!

It wouldn’t be Sunday without brunch! Head to Hanna’s Gourmet for the tastiest and most affordable brunch in San Diego. Hanna’s Gourmet serves global fare in their cozy University Heights restaurant five days a week. Once a month the restaurant hosts a family style dinner inspired by a different country. Past meals have been inspired by Ethiopia (the owners home country), Spain, Morrocco, and France. If you can make it to one of these fun family events make sure you snatch the opportunity. For a regular weekend brunch, we recommend the Green Chilaquiles or the Berry Ricotta Pancakes – both under $12. Whatever you do don’t forget to try one of their daily mimosa specials which are usually adorned with fresh local fruit.

Instead of spending all of your money at one restaurant, why not try five? That’s exactly why we started Bite in the first place! This Sunday at 2 pm our North Park Walking Food Tour will be taking guests up and down University Ave on a culinary exploration. Join the tour and you’ll get to try deep dish pizza, pretzel puffs, tostadas, and maybe a hot wing or two. If you’re a daring foodie our La Jolla Walking Food Tour will also be running. Leaving at 12:30 pm we’ll be trying Richard Walker’s famous pancakes, Hawaiian food, vegan pancakes, and more. All of the tours are led by one of our knowledgeable tour guides who know San Diego even better than they know food. Sign up for a bite of a lifetime!
