This month’s tour guide highlight features John from the Bite San Diego NTC/Liberty Station. With the launch of the new Liberty Public Market, we thought this would be a great time for you to get to know him!
BITE: Hey John! With the launch of the Public Market on its way, we wanted everyone to get to know some things about you. Lets start with…Where did you grow up? How long?
John: I was born and lived in Ventura, CA until I was ten and then lived in Exeter, CA (Central Valley) until I went to college.
BITE: Ventura’s a cool little place on the coast! What brought you to San Diego or what kept you here?
John: My wife went to USD and after living in LA for 3 years, we were ready to move to the place that we wanted to settle down and start a family. The weather, lack of traffic, and general niceness about everyone here has kept me here.
BITE: Well, if we know one thing, we know the weather here is A-MA-ZING! What do you do when you aren’t being a tour guide for BITE?
John: I am a middle school Social Studies teacher in Mission Valley.
BITE: That is so awesome, a well-rounded man, with an awesome personality. That explains why you love being a tour guide. By the way, what is your favorite part of being a guide?
John: I love getting to experience new parts of town that I didn’t know about and having the opportunity to meet and interact with amazing guests!
BITE: We could not agree more! Although you already answered this question a little bit, what do you think is the best part about taking guests through different neighborhoods in San Diego?
John: I love being able to expose people to new things, whether it is new restaurants or new information that they didn’t know.
BITE: I’m sure being a middle school teacher plays a big deal in that, t00. It’s always satisfying knowing you’re helping people! Do you cook or like to cook? If so, what is your favorite dish to make?
John: I love to cook! I particularly love to grill. Anything that can be grilled, falls into my favorites category.
BITE: Grilling is the BOMB! (and really, you can grill almost anything!) What is your favorite thing to eat (food or cuisine)? OR where is your favorite place to grab a ‘Bite’?
John: I really enjoy trying new foods! I always want to expand my taste experiences!
BITE: Us too! Nothing better than having a little bit of everything. If you could be a tour guide anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
John: I would love to be a tour guide in Greece. I LOVE Greek food and the history there is so incredible.
BITE: I’ve heard that Greece is absolutely amazing, what a fun place to be. With a background in history, I’m sure that would be soon cool! This might be a difficult question, but, if you had to choose 2 things to eat for the rest of your life, what would they be and why?
John: I would eat a taco salad and In-N-Out. I would have taco salad because it covers the majority of the necessary food/nutrition areas necessary for survival. I would have In-N-Out because I just can’t live without it.
BITE: Hahaha! You better stick to the West Coast then! If you had a food super power, what would it be and why?
John: My super power would be to make any type of food, from any place in the world, in any amount, appear whenever I wanted it.
BITE: That would be so awesome. Let us know when you figure out how to do that! Thanks John! We love talking to you!
That wraps it up for the first Q&A with our well-rounded, NTC/Liberty Station tour guide. Stay tuned forNTC/Liberty Station tour which will be reopening soon!
